I did more research, and found out I might be related to George Armstrong Custer, the youngest General in the Civil War. I am still researching this.

Also his brother Thomas Ward Custer, a TWO time Medal of Honor winner. He was a Captain and they both fell in the same battle. The Battle of Little Bighorn. Many blame George Custer, but he actually had several other forces separated. Custer already was famous for fighting in the Battle of Washita and in the Civil War. At Washita, Major Joel Elliott was killed along with his men while serving Custer. According to my research, he pursued a group of Native Americans. Benteen was apparently a friend of Elliott's and wrote about the death of his friend. It made it look like Custer left Elliot to die. It was published and George became furious. Major Reno also was in the 7th Calvary with them. They were all at the Battle of Little Bighorn. Custer and his men were surrounded and outnumbered. They fired a volley of fire that was heard. Reno and Benteen did not come to help Custer. Captain Weir tried to help Custer against orders. Custer fell with all the men who fought in his unit that day. Weir was not at the court hearing, but Benteen and Reno were. Weir apparently became depressed and died soon after the battle. Reno after the battle tried to make a move on another 7th Calvary officer's wife. He was eventually discharged because of his behavior through out  the years, but was buried with full honors and later they changed it to "honorably  discharged." Benteen was promoted to Major a few years after the battle.
